Program Description
One of the most effective ways to gauge learning effectiveness is by conducting well designed assessments. Among the various assessment methods available, online assessment is now widely used not only to check understanding of concepts learned but also to determine interactivity, the collective construction of knowledge, and collaboration- on top of whether the learning objectives have been met.
Effective online assessments help facilitate improvement, measure achievement, maintain standards, stimulate learning, and provide instant feedback. This course aims to introduce methods and strategies in designing and developing online assessments that are learning-oriented. According to David Carless (2007), learning-oriented assessment is constructed in such a way that opportunities for meaningful learning are maximised. This course will also introduce different online assessment resources and tools, which can be utilised to create authentic and engaging assessments online that set clear expectations, reinforce vital technology skills, promote creativity, and provide scalability, flexibility, and automation. In addition, activities and discussions geared toward understanding the principles and techniques on how to incorporate online assessments aligned to the learning outcomes to help create meaningful, learner-centered learning environments will be explored and provided. These will help encourage ample opportunities for learners to practise, self-learn, and identify strong points and areas of improvement, while allowing facilitators to do the same.
